We've been working on phonics, counting, math with calculators (push add button, read operands and result), and sense of time. We record current date, practice having him write his date of birth, and think about history back to the 1850s, how life was different before various inventions. Mom Celeste did some more research. The crater she discovered corresponds to Walker Ridge, probably named for the famous mountain man explorer Joseph R. Walker. That area is managed by the Forest Service. Celeste called a geologist there named Brad Wills. Walker Ridge is currently classified as a fault, not as part of a caldera. He was excited, said "This could be news!" Austin and Celeste looked at volcano pictures, cover story of Via magazine. Also viewed the Milky Way Galaxy and star rotation in a Forest Service Video.

We watched a video about a conjoined twin girls and saw how people who are different can lead fulfiling lives and meet their challenges.

Gymnastics Academy

To give Austin the experience of class with other kids, he enrolled in a trampoline gymnastics class with Amalia.

Fishing Trip

Today Austin had the adventure of visiting the riverside with some kids who showed him a dragonfly molt, a crawfish trap, a crawfish claw, oyster shells, frog eggs and various sunken treasures like beads, a shield penny, and a gold button!

Today, following Waldorf example, Austin sewed up a rip in his batman shirt. Yesterday, he improved a water-based pancake recipe by adding eggs and extra cinnamon. He cut his pancakes himself and has been practicing making sandwiches.
